CanJoe*John  performed and also provided a workshop for the Senior Citizens Center of Kingsport, TN from 12noon-2pm on Tuesday, May 13, in celebration of National Senior Citizen Week.

CanJoe*John was a featured performer and headlined with Sonny Smith, the 1998 national banjo picker of the year, at the Big Frog Mountain Bluegrass Festival held on Memorial Day weekend, May 25, 2003, Hwy 64, Cleveland TN. This event was sponsored by the Traditional Music Resource Center of Cleveland, TN (go to www.traditionalmusiccenter.org.) He was backed by Appalachian Strings with the featured vocals of Kerensa Smith and the folks at this event loved the show according to the great guest page entries on the canjoe web site.

CanJoe*John conducted 3 workshops teaching students of three elementary schools in Pickens County, SC on making homemade instruments. These workshops also focused on the history and performance of Old Time traditional music and was part of the preparation for the attending students who will all take part in a grand performance at the Pickens County Heritage Festival held on the grounds of the  Pickens County historic Haygood Mill.

CanJoe*John and Amber Morgan attended Fan Fair 2003...they appeared at their booth at the convention center June 5-8, 2003 as well as at several  downtown Nashville venues during America's biggest "Country Music Fair" held annually in Nashville, TN

CanJoe*John attended and performed at the 1st Newry Bluegrass Festival where he also won 1st place in the Old Time fiddle competition. He was also declared the best canjoe picker of Oconee County by the panel of judges in this historic town of Newry, SC

CanJoe*John performed to a packed house at the Nashville Palace, backed by Steve Hill and the Nashville Palace Pickers with a rousing, thunderous applause by the great audience during the weekend of the CMA FanFair 2003, Nashville, TN

CanJoe*John and Amber Morgan  performed in Hamilton, Ohio at the Butler County "Bell Casting" Celebration on July 4, 2003. They were invited as special entertainers for all attending this 200th anniversary celebration of Ohio's bicentennial as a U.S. state.

 CanJoe*John attended the 7th Annual Doc Watson Festival held in Sugar Grove, NC on July 11-12 to help celebrate Doc's 80th birthday.

CanJoe*John performed at the annual Warrior Path State Park's "Folk Life Festival"  held at the beautiful Kingsport, Tennessee state park, July 19, 2003 at 6pm.

CanJoe*John performed two great shows on the Museum Stage backed by Appalachian Strings with vocals by DorNel Pratt at the Appalachian Fair on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 7pm and at 8:30pm. This was the 77th annual fair at Gray, TN and was attended by >280,000. Also, the CanJoe Store was open in booth #337 from Aug 15-23 during the fair hours. For more information on this #1 fair

CanJoe*John headlined with the Skillet Lickers (included in his performance were many students from A.R. Lewis, Pickens, and Six Mile elementary schools) at the historic Hagood Mill for the Pickens County Upstate Heritage Festival,  September 20, 2003, Pickens, SC

CanJoe*John finished his Freedom Tour 2003 (Oct. 23-Nov 9) traveling the southern route to California and back. The first scheduled stop was New Orleans to work on a video project with producer Dave LeBlanc. After crossing Texas, he cantinued on to Tucson, AZ where he taped a special TV program with producer Will Almich, SR. and interviewed on three other live TV broadcasts on the Harvest Time Cable Networks (airing the week of Oct. 30th). After spending a few days with his parents in Yuma, AZ  he  then proceeded to Studio City, CA to record his album, "An Uncanny Christmas" with producer and musician, Tom Conrad.  After several days (and nights) in the studio with Tom, he then traveled to San Diego, CA to see his daughter, HM2 Angela Boyer upon her return from Iraq with the USS Nimitz. He toured the ship with Angela, her husband Dan and grandson, Schuyler...the blue star flag on frequent display during the Freedom Tour 2003 was presented to Angela and the cross country return trip was successfully canpleted.
