Announces the introduction of the newly starting TAMHA "SLOW PLAY" JAM SESSIONS of Appalachian OLD TIME AND BLUEGRASS at the old ANDERSON TOWN HOUSE in historic BLOUNTVILLE, TN
The new TAMHA "Slow Play" Jam Sessions at the old log Anderson Town House in historic Blountville, TN promotes Appalachian Old Time and Bluegrass music for "slow play" as an introduction of the styles, playing techniques, and characteristics of the region's music for beginning and experienced players. Enjoy beginning or improving your Old Time and Bluegrass music experience in these non-intimidating, non-embarrassing, all inclusive, everyone invited, fun, free sessions. Experienced players lead beginners in playing the tunes. Each week a new set of 3 popular Appalachian Old Time and Bluegrass tunes are learned and previous tunes that have been learned are played. The slow jammer beginners may use written music if needed for the current week’s tunes but they are encouraged to play prior week’s tunes from memory or by ear. A music playlist with written and recorded music samples for each week is provided as well as this web page will soon to be offering free downloadable versions of the tunes so that the players may hear the tunes outside of the sessions. Ample time is available after the "Slow Play" sessions for anyone to join in on the regularly scheduled weekly open play jam sessions.

TAMHA Appalachian Old Time/Bluegrass "SLOW PLAY" JAM SESSION 1 Friday, September 11, 2009 6-7PM The following 3 oldtime traditional tunes will be the first offered for those interested in learning and playing Appalachian Old Time and Bluegrass music at the new TAMHA "Slow Play" jam sessions officially kicking off on Friday, September 11, 2009. "BILE THEM CABBAGE DOWN" (key of A) "OLD JOE CLARK" (key of A) "FADED LOVE" (key of D) Everyone interested and any age can attend these free sessions, so bring a fiddle, a mandolin, a banjo, a dulcimer, a guitar, or any stringed instrument that may be used in playing these oldtime traditional tunes and lets SLOW JAM! |
The Traditional Appalachian Music Heritage Association (TAMHA) was formed in 2001 as a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that the rich heritage of traditional music of southern Appalachia will be understood and celebrated by the people in our region and throughout the world. Our goal is to preserve the musical heritage through performance by musicians and establishing a resource for those interested in this genre of American music. We encourage and promote the teaching of traditional music to our younger generations so they too might gain an appreciation of their musical heritage from the Appalachian region.
